Today I made the final decision to do something I've though about for quite some time. Today I started the 100 thing challenge. I'm officially starting the process to limit myself to 100 possessions. It sounds pretty extreme, until you realize that all of things count as categories, and thus one thing, (i.e. toiletries, shirts, shoes... all can be one item.) then it all sounds a lot more managable, but it is still really really hard.
I mean some things are really hard to give up, even though they are completely unnecessary. Momentos of times with friends, artwork friends made me, stupid thing I made myself.. they all are really hard to give up. So far today I've given away all of my dvds, all of my journals (I tore out the pages I'd written on), a couple books, my peace sign ice cube tray and my lamp.
Also, I decided that this should effect my wardrobe in some way too... so starting tomorrow I'm cutting my wardrobe by 25%... I'm pretty excited for that actually... it will be hard, but worth it in the end I hope.
So wish my luck on this little endeavor.

Don't over-categorize. Try giving yourself a few categories that can have multiple items. Once you get rolling, 100 things (or some other smallish number) is totally doable.
